❓ Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are Spaces?

Spaces are a new way to organize and manage all your templates and hierarchies in Smart Issue Template for Jira. They provide a centralized, bidirectional relationship between items, allowing better structure, grouping, and permission management.

2. What happened to Tags?

Tags have been deprecated and replaced by Spaces. Tags were only usable with issue templates and hierarchies, had a one-way relationship, and were limited in functionality. With Spaces, you get:

  • More flexibility

  • Item-to-space visibility

  • Access control

  • Support for all template types

3. Will my existing Tags be lost?

No. Your existing Tags will be automatically converted into Spaces during the migration. Each Tag becomes a Space with the same name, and all associated Issue Templates and Hierarchies will be linked.

4. What if the automatic migration doesn’t happen?

If, for any reason, the automatic migration doesn't take place, you can use the "Convert Tags" button available in the UI ( Spaces Page ) to manually trigger the conversion of Tags to Spaces.

5. Can I still see my old Tags?

No. The Tags page will no longer list tags. Instead, you will see a banner notifying you of the change and directing you to the new Spaces page.

6. Who can access the new Spaces?

  • Spaces created from Tags during migration are global.

  • Any new Space you create is private by default and only accessible to you unless you add permissions for others.

7. Can I associate multiple items with a Space?

Yes! You can link any number and type of items (Issue Templates, Hierarchies, Sub-task templates, etc.) to a Space. You can also assign a Space to an item directly from the item’s edit or view screen.

8. How do I create a new Space?

From the new Spaces page, click on "Create Space", assign a name, and start adding templates or hierarchies. You can also configure access permissions for each Space.

9. Will existing relationships between templates and tags be preserved?

Yes. During migration, all existing associations between Tags and their related Issue Templates/Hierarchies will be preserved in their corresponding Spaces.

10. Can I delete a Space?

Yes, you can delete Spaces that you have created. Note that global Spaces created via migration may have different rules depending on your organization’s permissions.
